Matriculation and Undergraduate Awards Scholarships A scholarship is a monetary award to assist full-time students in the pursuit of their studies based on outstanding academic achievement, but usually not on financial need. The fact that a student has the required average or higher does not guarantee a scholarship. Scholarships are competitive based on grades. The University may allot scholarships by Faculty. Scholarships offered by the University are tenable only at Wilfrid Laurier University. Matriculation Scholarships Matriculation scholarships are available to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and applicants who hold a valid student visa. These scholarships are sponsored and administered by the University for students who are entering the First Year of any undergraduate program. The scholarships are based on interim grades submitted by secondary schools. The required averages quoted below are the minimum averages. Competition may require higher averages in some programs. A student who accepts an offer of admission at Wilfrid Laurier University may defer registration for one year without loss of the scholarship, provided the student does not register in the interval at another post secondary institution. A student may not hold more than one matriculation scholarship. Successful candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement. Previous academic progress and the secondary school principal's comments will also be taken into consideration.
