Prizes and Awards

 Concordia Club Prize
Value: $50.00. Awarded annually by the department for academic
excellence in the First and
Third Year of Honours German.

 The Consulate General of France Prize
Presented by the Consulate General of France, Toronto, and
awarded on the recommendation
of the Department of French Language and Literature to students
pursuing courses in French and
having outstanding academic records.

 Geography Department Faculty Award
Presented to students achieving the highest standing in their
Third Year of the Honours
Geography program.

 German Book Prizes
Book prizes are donated by the Swiss Embassy in Ottawa as well as
by the German Consulate
in Toronto. Awarded to students pursuing courses in German on the
recommendation of the
Department of German.

 Elliot T. Grasett Essay Prize in Canadian History
Value: $100.00. This award is offered annually by the Canadian
Federation of University
Women. The Department of History selects the student with the
highest academic standing in
Third Year Honours History.

 The William E. Gwatkin Jr. Book Prize
This award was established in memory of William E. Gwatkin Jr.,
one-time Professor and Head
of Classics at Wilfrid Laurier University. The award may be made
annually to full-time students
at the end of Third or Fourth Year who have completed at least
the equivalent of a minor in
classics with a minimum GPA of 10.00 in their classics courses
and satisfactory standing in all
other courses.

 The Carl Zeiss Jena Award
The Carl Zeiss Jena Award under the auspices of the Jena
Instruments Limited will be given to
the student who attains the highest grade in the field of
microscopic studies. This annual prize
consisting of a pair of field binoculars having a value of
$250.00 will be awarded to a student
in the final year of study. No application is necessary.

 The Spanish Embassy Book Prizes
Presented by the Spanish Embassy in Ottawa to students pursuing
courses in Spanish and having
outstanding academic records.

 The Swiss Embassy Book Prizes
Presented annually to students pursuing courses in French and
German who have outstanding
academic records. Nominees will be recommended by the appropriate
department chairperson.

 Leon Thiry Peace Prize
Awarded annually to a student regisadred in PP230, who submits
the best publishable essay on
world peace. The winner will be selected by the course
instructor.
