HONOURS BA PROGRAMS

 Honours Anthropology
The Honours Anthropology program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent) of which
not more than six may be at the 100-level. A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 credits must
be taken in Anthropology.

    For admission to the Second, Third and Fourth Years of the program, a
GPA of 7.00 is required for the Anthropology and required Sociology courses taken in the
previous year together with a GPA of 4.00 in all other courses.

 Honours Anthropology in Combination with Another Honours Program
The combined Honours Anthropology program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent)
of which not more than six may be taken at the 100 level. A minimum of seven Anthropology
credits is required; a maximum of nine Anthropology credits may be taken.

    The Anthropology courses must include: AN101, AN102, AN210; one of
AN201, AN203, AN205; two of AN206, AN207, AN208; AN370* and either AN329 or
AN330; and either AN450* or AN454*.

    For admission to the Second Year of the program, a GP of 7.00 in AN100*
is required: to proceed to the Third and Fourth Years of the program, a GPA of 7.00 is required
for the Anthropology courses in each previous year.

    The student must also maintain throughout his program a GPA of 4.00 in
the non-specialty electives taken each year.

 Honours Archaeology
The Interdepartmental Honours Program in Archaeology consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit
courses (or equivalent). Three areas are offered: near eastern, classical and prehistoric. Students
should strive to choose their area program in the First Year. The programs have six core credits
in common. In addition, each program has a number of particular courses that are required,
some in Archaeology and some in related fields.

    For admission to the Second Year of the program a GP(A) of 6.00 is
required in the Archaeology credit(s) and 4.00 in elective credits. For admission to the Third
and Fourth Years, a GPA of 7.00 is required in the Archaeology credits and 4.00 in elective
credits.

    Students wishing to change area programs should consult with the
Co-ordinator.

    The Core Program consists of AR100*, AR245*, AR306* and AR341*,
and two Archaeology credits not in the student's area program, one credit of which is
predetermined by the course requirements of each area..

be taken. Biology courses may be taken as ``a'', i.e. non-lab courses if available (see page 150.)

 Regulations and Notes:
 1.
       With departmental approval a student in the General program may transfer to the
      Honours program after fulfilling all the Honours requirements up to the time of transfer.
      Students (except those who have been permitted to proceed in Honours Biology on probation)
      who must transfer out of the Honours program because of an insufficient GPA may re-enter the
      program provided that by the end of the academic year following transfer to the General
      program, they have
       (a)
       attained an accumulated GPA in Biology of at least 7.00;

The Honours Classical Studies program consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or
equivalent) of which a maximum of four may be 100 level courses taken outside the department.
A minimum of 11 credits must be taken in the department, a maximum of 13 will be permitted.

 Honours English Language and Literature
The Honours English program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent). Not more than
six of these may be at the 100-level. A minimum of 12 and a maximum of 14 credits are
required in English. For students wishing to graduate with a degree in Honours English and the
Drama minor, the minimum number of credits required in English is 12, and the maximum
number of credits in both English and Theatre is 15.

Students in Honours English must have their non-English electives approved by the Department.
Guidance will be given to students who wish to give their Honours degree a particular academic,
vocational, or practical emphasis.

    For admission to Second Year students must have a minimum GP of 7.00
in EN122* and a GPA of 4.00 in the electives of the First Year.

    For admission to each of the subsequent years of the program, students must
have a minimum GPA of 8.00 in the required English courses and 4.00 in their non-English and
(if taken) English electives of the previous year.

 Honours English Internship Option (see page 73)

 Honours English in Combination with Another Honours Program
The combined Honours English program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent). Not
more than six of these may be at the 100 level.

    Students must take EN122* and at least eight English credits offered at the
Honours level. Department approval must be obtained for these eight credits.

 Honours French Language and Literature
The Honours French program consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent).
Not more than 7 of these may be at the 100 level. Students must take at least 11 but no more
than 12 credits in French.

    For admission to each of the senior years of the program, a minimum GPA
of 7.00 is required in Honours French and 4.00 in the elective credits of the previous year.

     Students may transfer from the General program into the Honours
program if they have obtained a minimum GPA of 7.00 in French and a minimum GPA of 4.00
in elective credits. Permission of the Department of French Language and Literature is also
required.

    First Year Francophone students, bilingual students, and students with credit
for OAC French Immersion courses whose performance on a placement test written during the
first week of classes is deemed satisfactory may be placed in FR251*.

literature, the student must also take one credit in the literature of France preceding 1800, and

 Third Year Abroad
The Department of French Language and Literature co-operates with corresponding departments
at the universities of Windsor, Western Ontario and Guelph in operating a Third-Year Abroad
program at the University of Nice, France. Students in good standing in Honours French at
Wilfrid Laurier may apply to participate in this program.

 Honours French in Combination with Another Honours Program
The combined Honours French program consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or
equivalent). Not more than seven of these may be at the 100 level. At least nine credits must
be taken in French at the Honours level. For admission to each of the senior years of the
program, a minimum GP of 7.00 is required in Honours French, and 4.00 in the electives of the
previous year.

literature, the student must also take one credit in the literature of France preceding 1800, and
another in literature of France after 1800.

 Honours Geography
The Honours Geography program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent) and includes
a minimum of 10.5 credits in Geography and a minimum of eight non-Geography credits. Not
more than six full-credit courses (or equivalent) may be at the 100 level. The program must
include at least one half-credit in curriculum division A in the General program.

 Honours History
An Honours degree in History requires a total of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent). Not more
than 6 credits at the 100 level may be counted toward the degree, and 1 of these 6 must be in
History at the 100 level. Nine of the 20 credits must be Honours history offerings. Certain of
these are required and must be taken in a specific year of the program.

    One 200 or 300 level credit in Canadian history is required.

 Honours Mathematics
The Honours Mathematics (BA) program consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or
equivalent) including at least 11 and no more than 13 Mathematics credits. The program includes
no more than 7 junior credits and must include at least 4 Mathematics credits at the 300 or 400
level including at least 2 at the 400 level.

 Honours Physical Education
Physical Education is a program with a limited and controlled enrolment. Students wishing this
program must indicate this preference on the initial application to the University.

    The Honours BA program in Physical Education consists of a minimum of
20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), not more than 6 of which may be at the 100 level. The
program must include at least 9 and may include at most 12 senior credits in Physical Education.
All Physical Education students who were accepted into a physical education program in June
1992, or after, and who wish to complete the Honours degree, will be classified as General
program students until the completion of 15 full credits, which must include: PE121, PE122;
4 of PE101  through PE119  and/or PE207 ; PE210 or PE211; PE216; PE219; PE220; PE231;

    For admission to the Second Year of the program, a GP(A) of 7.00 is

    Students must have their total program approved by their two Honours
Departments by the beginning of each academic year.

 Honours Psychology
The Honours Psychology program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), including
at least 10 but not more than 11.5 credits in Psychology. A maximum of 6 credits at the 100
level may be included in the program.

    It is recommended that all students considering graduate work register for
the thesis (PS499*) course in Fourth Year. Students who do not take PS499* must take PS498*.

    Students are advised that admission to the Honours Psychology program
does not guarantee admission to the Fourth Year thesis (PS499*) course.

    The non-Psychology credits must include at least one from each of the
following groups:
 Group I: BI100*, BI110, BI120, CH100*, CH101*, CH110*, CH115*,
      CP102, CP104, CP114, CP116, GL100*, MA100*, MA108, MA109, MA121, MA122,

of 8.5 and a maximum of 11 credits in Psychology are required. Students who are required to
complete research methods and statistics courses in the second Honours program should consult
with both Departments to avoid duplication.

 Honours Religion and Culture
The program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent) of which 10, but no more than 15,
must be in Religion and Culture. Individual programs can be constructed by student and advisor
to meet a variety of needs such as preparation for graduate study, seminary, or teaching. The
Honours students must take RE215 and RE216, the two Honours seminar courses RE476 and
RE477, and the senior thesis course RE471*. At least two half-credit courses must be taken in
each of three areas: (1) Ancient Near East and Mediterranean Religions: RE107, RE108, RE200,

 Honours Sociology
The program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent) of which not more than 6 may be
at the 100 level. The program must include a minimum of 11 credits (2 at the 400 level) and
may include a maximum of 13 credits in Sociology. The program must also include AN101 and
one other half credit in Anthropology.

 First Year

 Honours Spanish
For Honours Spanish, a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent) must be successfully
completed before graduation of which 10 must be in Spanish; at least 3 credits must be obtained
in language courses, 1 credit in Survey of Spanish Literature,  half credit in Spanish
Golden Age Literature, and 1 credit in Spanish American Literature. Students may be required
to take a comprehensive examination at the end of their last year.

    For admission to Second and subsequent years a minimum GPA of 7.00 is
required in Spanish, and 4.00 in the elective credits of the previous year.
