Athletics and Recreation Wilfrid Laurier University is a member of the Ontario Universities Athletic Association (OUAA) and the Ontario Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OWIAA), and competes in 17 sports. Both the men and women's teams have been competitive within these two associations. The recreational facilities compare favourably with those of other institutions and provide many opportunities for the leisure pursuits of the university community. An Olympic-length swimming pool, six air-conditioned squash courts, three gymnasia with seating for 2,500 spectators, a modern weight exercise room and two outdoor tennis courts are at the disposal of students for recreational use. WLU now owns Seagram Stadium which includes a lighted football field, a six lane track, a gymnasium and an exercise room. Plans are under way to put in an artificial playing surface which could accommodate many sports including softball. The Intramural sports program includes competitive, instructional and co-educational activities.
