Cultural, Religious and Social Environment The Faculty of Music has three choirs the Wilfrid Laurier University Choir, the Wilfrid Laurier Women's Choir, and the Chapel Choir a Symphony Orchestra; Wind, Baroque and Jazz Ensembles; and numerous chamber ensembles. They all perform regularly in public concert. These concerts are free to all Laurier students. Admission to any ensemble is by audition; students in other faculties are welcome to audition. These September auditions are arranged during the preceding August. Many opportunities are offered for extra-curricular activities which contribute to student growth and experience. Some, including musical reviews, dramatic productions, student publications and service programs, enlist the participation of large numbers. Other clubs and societies sponsor a wide variety of events of social, cultural and political interest and frequently organize for service projects. Chapel services are held daily on campus. Attendance is voluntary. The services reflect the varied Christian tradition found in the student body and the faculty. Special events in 1992-93 planned by the University and students included lectures, musical presentations, art exhibitions and the annual Boar's Head Dinner, a festivity which began at Oxford University 600 years ago. Each December the students at Wilfrid Laurier University celebrate this traditional event with a festive evening including the Boar's Head procession, dinner, guest speaker, and the singing of Christmas carols.
