POST-DEGREE STUDIES

 Opera Diploma Program
The Opera Diploma program is intended for singers who have
completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in Music and who
wish to continue their studies in voice and opera. The diploma
requires the completion, within three consecutive academic terms
(spring/fall/winter or fall/winter/spring), of four and a half
credits with an overall average of 7.00. For admission to the
program, students must have completed all prerequisites, audition
successfully, and be admitted to the University.

    Prerequisites: MU298*, MU490*, and two of FR102,
GM100*, IT131.

    Required courses: MU294; MU398* or MU498*; MU491B*;
MU491R; and one and a half credits which must include, if not
taken as part of the undergraduate degree, a half credit in drama
(TR221 or TR229) or MU284 (Acting for Singers). The student must
be enrolled concurrently in MU398* or MU498*, MU491B*, and an
approved elective course; withdrawal from one of these will
entail withdrawal from the program.

Electives may be chosen from MU497* (Intensive
Studies in Voice), drama, acting, languages, and a senior half
credit in music history. Depending on the student's prior
experience in voice, opera, music history, and drama, other
electives may be considered such as accompanying, coaching, and
dance. Each student's program must be approved by the Dean and by
the Co-ordinator of Opera.

Students in this program may not repeat courses.

 Diploma in Chamber Music
The Chamber Music Diploma program is intended for performers who
have completed an undergraduate degree or Diploma in Music and
who wish to continue their studies in chamber music. The diploma
requires the completion, within three successive academic terms
(spring/fall/winter or fall/winter/spring) of four and a half
credits with an overall average of 7.00.

For admission to the program, students must
successfully complete an audition and be admitted to the
University. An applicant who does not apply as a member of a
pre-formed chamber music group will only be admitted if he or she
can be a member of an appropriate group of which every member is
registered in the Faculty of Music. Students who enter without a
senior course in 20th-century music literature, history, or
theory must take such a course as an elective within the Diploma
program.

    Required courses: MU491B*, MU491C, MU488*, MU482;
MU376, Studies in the History of a Musical Genre: Chamber Music
or another course in music history or theory focusing on chamber
music; one elective credit, Music or non-Music.

Each student's program must be approved by the Dean
and by the Director of Chamber Music.

Students in this program may not repeat courses.

 Other Post-Degree Studies
Applicants for post-degree practical studies will be considered
by the Admissions Committee after the studio requirements for
undergraduates have been determined. Any student enrolled in
post-degree, non-diploma practical studies in Music must be
enrolled full-time. Any withdrawal from courses that produces
less than full-time registration (four credits) will require
withdrawal from all practical study courses.
