CO-OPERATIVE OPTIONS:

The co-operative plan was introduced in the
School of Business and Economics to offer students an educational
alternative. A number of students find the Honours Business
Administration and Honours Economics programs more exciting and
more purposeful when pursued on the basis of an alternating
sequence of work and study.
Co-op students begin their alternating sequence of
four-month work and study terms at the end of Second Year.
Normally, a co-op student would accumulate 12 months of practical
work experience and graduate four months after students in the
regular sequence. No academic credit will be given for the work
experience. Students successfully completing the option will
have the notation Co-operative Option appended to their
transcripts.
The development of suitable work term employment for
co-op students is under the direction of the Department of
Co-operative Education. Students apply to employers with whom
they are interested in working. Normally, co-op interviews are
conducted on campus since this is most convenient for students
and employers.
Although employment cannot be guaranteed, every
effort is made to ensure that suitable employment is available
for students admitted to the co-op option. Students are
compensated by their employer for work performed.
Co-op students follow the same academic program as
regular students. Because of the alternating pattern of co-op
work and study terms, there are some differences in the
timetabling of individual courses.
A co-op fee is payable in each academic term of
Second and Third Year.
Application Procedure
Students interested in pursuing the co-op options must first
enrol in the Honours Business Administration or Honours Economics
program.
Students apply for the co-op options during the
Fall Term of their Second Year, no later than the Monday of the
second week of classes. Admission decisions are made in
mid-October. Total enrolment in the co-operative options
is limited.
