The social causes and consequences of illness from the
perspective of the three major paradigms in sociology:
positivism, definitionism, and activism. The objective and
subjective distribution and causes of illness in comparative
cultural perspective. Medicine as an institution, ideology and
activity of social control. Comparative analysis of health-care
intervention organizations, personnel, and systems. (Telecollege
Course).
Prerequisite: SY203* or SY280 or SY281 (or permission of the
Department).
Exclusion: SY321 and/or SY322.
