Bursary
A monetary award to assist students in the pursuit of their studies based 
on financial need and satisfactory academic achievement. 
 1.   Financial assistance is available only to full-time students.
 2.   Applicants for bursaries should have attained at least a GPA of 4.00 in
      the academic year immediately preceding application.
 3.   The usual value of bursaries is from $200.00 to $300.00.
 4.   Application for a bursary should be made after the applicant has
      registered. Normally bursary applications are dealt with in the 
      Second term.
      Applications will be accepted up to March 30 of the current 
      academic year pending availability of funds.Applications and 
      information are available from the Student Awards Office, Wilfrid 
      Laurier University.

 The Major W. Freeman Anderson Award
An annual award of $100.00 is available to a female student registered in the
Second, Third or Fourth Year of any program of the Department of Sociology.
Eligible students must demonstrate financial need.

 Atkinson Charitable Foundation Bursaries
A number of bursaries are awarded to deserving undergraduate students in 
any year of a Degree program. Applicants must be residents of the Province 
of Ontario and be able to demonstrate financial need.

 Barkley's of Avonmore Bursary
Provided by Mr. Fred Barkely of Avonmore, Ontario. A bursary valued at $500.00
or two bursaries of $250.00 will be awarded annually to students who can  
establish financial need.Preference will be given to students from Third 
World countries.

 Peter Barrett Memorial Bursary
Value: determined annually. This bursary is in memory of Peter Barrett, 
a professor of Business from 1992 to 1994. Third year students with good 
academic standing, showing an interest in environmental business and who 
can demonstrate a financial need should apply through the Student Awards 
Office.

 Eric Barton Memorial Bursary
Value: $100.00. To be awarded annually to a deserving student in the Honours
BMus program entering Second, Third or Fourth Year with preference given to a
student in Honours performance (voice).

 Birks Family Foundation Bursaries
The Birks Family Foundation has established a plan of annual 
contributions to the Student Aid Fund of recognized Canadian Universities 
and Colleges for the creation of the Birks Family Foundation Bursaries.

    The bursaries are open to all Faculties and no restrictions are placed 
on year. The number and value of these awards vary annually, depending 
upon available funds from the Foundation.

 Sandra Lynn Bresso Bursary
Given in memory of the late Sandra Lynne Bresso. Up to five bursaries, valued at
$200.00 each, will be given to a student(s) whose academic performance is
satisfactory, and who can demonstrate need.

 Canadian Federation of University Women, Kitchener-Waterloo
Provided by the Kitchener-Waterloo branch of the Canadian Federation of
University Women. Open to full-time women students of Wilfrid Laurier 
University in Second, Third or Fourth Year, who have a minimum GPA of 
7.00. Mature women students meeting these requirements are encouraged to 
apply.

 Church Music Bursary
This award is a $250.00 gift certificate for organ music and books donated
by the Music Plus Corporation and is awarded to an organist in the Honours
Bachelor of Music:Church Music program.

 Jim Clark Bursary
Established in memory of the late Jim Clark, Professor of English, 1948 to 1982.
Thebursary is offered annually to a deserving student entering Third 
Year, registered in theatre courses or in drama courses in the Department 
of English. The recipient will be selected by the Department of English in 
conjunction with the Director Student Awards.

 Class of 1980 Bursary
Provided by the 1980 graduating class of Wilfrid Laurier University. Open
to any undergraduate student whose academic work is satisfactory, and who
can demonstrate financial need.

 Class of 1981 Bursary
Provided by the 1981 graduating class of Wilfrid Laurier University. Awarded
annually to any undergraduate whose academic work is satisfactory, and 
who can demonstrate financial need.

 The John Finlay Memorial Bursary
Value: $250.00. This award is established in memory of Dr. John Finlay.
Provided annually by the Economics Association at Wilfrid Laurier 
University. It will be awarded toa Third or Fourth Year student 
registered in Honours Economics whose performance is satisfactory and who 
can demonstrate financial need.

 Foreign Student Bursaries
A limited number of bursaries will be provided in any year to foreign students.
Expenses covering students living and education costs are to be met by 
the student or their sponsor,and it is important that applicants have 
adequate resources apart from any assistance supplied by the University. 
Applications for a bursary will be accepted after students have registered 
at the University and commenced their course of study. Normally, funds 
are provided for unanticipated expenses. Decisions about applications 
will be made in January or February of the Winter Term.

 Grad Class Bursary
Students in financial need may apply for bursary assistance provided that they
are registered in their Second, Third or Fourth Years. Extracurricular 
involvement while at Wilfrid Laurier University is also a requirement for 
this bursary.

 The George Granger Bursary
This bursary was established by Wilfrid Laurier University to recognize the 
years of dedicated service by George Granger, Associate Registrar: 
Admissions. Mr. Granger was employed by the University from 1981 to 1995. 
The bursary is open to all undergraduate students in any faculty, with 
preference given to first or second year students. 

 The Clayton B. Hicks Memorial Bursary
Given by the Kitchener-Waterloo Optimist Club in recognition of participation by
students of Wilfrid Laurier University in the Club's annual fund drive. 
Awarded to students of approved academic standing, who require financial 
assistance in any year.

 Ada H. Huenergard Award
A bursary fund to assist students at Wilfrid Laurier University has been 
established by the estate of the late Ada H. Huenergard of Waterloo. The 
fund will be administered at the discretion of the University.

 I.O.D.E. Tommy Atkins Chapter Bursary
Value: $300.00. Bursary assistance is available from the I.O.D.E. Tommy
Atkins Chapter for full-time financially needy students. Good academic 
standing is also required.

 Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation Bursary
Bursaries will be awarded annually to full-time students from the Kitchener-
Waterloo area registered in an arts or music program.

 The Jeff Lasovich Memorial Award
Provided by friends of the late Jeff Lasovich, who was killed in August 
1981, and who was a member of the Golden Hawk varsity soccer team in 
1980-81, national finalists. Open to any student who is in satisfactory 
academic standing, and who can establish financial need.

 The Arthur B. and Hanna B. Little Memorial Bursary
These awards were established in memory of Arthur B. and Hanna B. Little.
Students must demonstrate financial need and be maintaining good academic
standing.
 
 3M Canada Inc. Bursary
Value: $500.00. Open to a student in a science-related discipline who can
demonstrate financial need. Students should complete an application 
available in the Student Awards Office. Selection made by the Director 
Student Awards.

 Masonic Foundation of Ontario Bursaries
A limited number of bursaries to be known as The Masonic Foundation of
Ontario Bursaries are available from the Foundation to assist in worthy 
cases in emergency circumstance, as certified by the appropriate awards 
officer of the university concerned,the amount of the bursary not to 
exceed $600.00 in any one case.

 Keith Moore Memorial Bursary
Two bursaries of $500.00 each will be awarded to two needy students 
entering Third or Fourth Year of a General or Honours Geography program. 
The funds come from the Keith Moore Memorial Endowment fund set up by the 
Moore family and friends. Students applying must be eligible for OSAP and 
be in good academic standing. The deadline for application is September 
15. Please submit applications to the Geography Department.

 Pennsylvania German Folklore Society Bursary
An award of $200.00 will be granted to a graduate or undergraduate 
student who presents an original essay, not less than 3,000 words in 
length, on any topic related to the culture, language or history of the 
Pennsylvania-German people of Ontario.

 Frank C. Peters Bursary
Value: $150.00. Provided by the Alumni Association of Wilfrid Laurier University
in honour of former President of the University Frank C. Peters. Open to 
any student ofs atisfactory academic standing who can demonstrate 
financial need.

 Gladys and Norman Raiter Bursary
A number of bursaries will be awarded annually in memory of the late Gladys and
Norman Raiter. Applicants must be in good academic standing, and be able to
establish need.

 The Wayne G. Schreiber Philosophy Bursary
Value: $300.00. This bursary has been established through the generosity 
of Wayne G.Schreiber and is available to Third or Fourth Year Honours 
Philosophy students holding Canadian citizenship. Students must have 
successfully completed PY204 (Logic) with aminimum GPA of 6.00 in that 
course (PY204 is required so long as this continues to be a requirement of 
the Honours program) and be able to demonstrate financial need. Theaward 
will be provided in the First Year to a female student who meets the 
abovecriteria and will alternate preferably between male/female students 
in subsequent years.Applications are available in the Student
Awards Office.

 The Society of Management Accountants of Ontario - Grand River Chapter
Value: $300.00. This award is funded through the generosity of the Grand
River Chapter of the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario. Students
entering the First Year of the business or accounting program who have 
completed secondary school in the counties of Perth, Wellington, or 
Waterloo are eligible.
Financial need must be demonstrated through application which can
be obtained from the StudentAwards Office.

 John Cameron Somerville Bursary
Provided by his family in memory of the late John Cameron Somerville, an
undergraduate of the class of 1973, for a student(s) who has/have 
successfully completed the Second Year in a social science course, and who 
can demonstrate need. The bursary will be awarded by the President of 
Wilfrid Laurier University.

 The John H. Spense Bursaries
The bursary fund to assist students at Wilfrid Laurier University has 
been established by the estate of the late John H. Spense, Brantford. This 
fund will be used to provide bursaries up to $200.00.

 Tamiae Bursary
Two awards are provided by the Tamiae Society of Wilfrid Laurier
University.These will be awarded to students registered in Honours business or
Honours economics whose performance is satisfactory and who can demonstrate
financial need. The amount will be determined annually.

 Lawrence E. Toombs Bursary
Value: $250.00. In honour of Dr. Lawrence E. Toombs, Professor Emeritus of
Religionand Culture and recipient of the WLU Outstanding Teacher Award of 
1980, alumni, students and friends have established the Lawrence E.
Toombs Bursary in Archaeology. Available to Honours archaeology students
who require academic credit and excavation experience overseas as part of 
their Honours archaeology curriculum. Selection will be made by departmental
committee based on financial need. Students in good academic standing are 
welcome to apply to the Student Awards Office by February 15th.

 WLU Alumni Association Toronto Chapter Bursary
Value: $500.00. This bursary is provided annually by the Toronto Chapter of the
WilfridLaurier University Alumni Association. Applicants must be in 
their graduating year and have demonstrated extra-curricular involvement 
vthroughout their time at Wilfrid LaurierUniversity. Applicants must also 
demonstrate financial need and have satisfactory grades in their program 
of study.

 Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA) Bursary
Value: $500.00. This bursary has been established by the Wilfrid Laurier
University Faculty Association (WLUFA) to provide bursary assistance to a 
deserving full-time WLUstudent who does not have an immediate familial 
relationship with a member of the WLUFA bargaining unit. Selection will be 
make by the Director of Student Awards inconsultation with the Executive 
of WLUFA.
  
 Wilfrid Laurier University Staff Association Bursary
Provided annually by the Wilfrid Laurier University Staff Association this 
bursary has a total value of $500.00. It is open to all full-time students 
in satisfactory academic standing who can demonstrate financial need.

 Wilfrid Laurier University Students Union Bursary
Value: $500.00. Two bursaries will be awarded annually by the Wilfrid Laurier
University Students Union. No student may receive a bursary more than once.
Students must establish financial need and preference will be given to 
students who have demonstrated character and resourcefulness, and have 
participated in campus extra-curricular activities,and/or who have been 
active in the community. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of4.00 and be 
enrolled full-time at Wilfrid Laurier University. The bursary will be 
awarded by the Director Student Awards in consultation with the President 
of the Wilfrid Laurier University Students  Union.

 The Women's Auxiliary Bursary
One bursary of $200.00 will be awarded by the Women's Auxiliary of Waterloo
Lutheran Seminary to one or more qualified students. The student must 
demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of 4.00.

 Women s Centre Bursary
Value: $500.00. The Women s Centre has established a bursary funded from the
Graduate Students  Association for a sole support parent pursuing 
graduate studies who can demonstrate financial need. Applications are 
available in the Student Awards Office.
