GENERAL BSc PROGRAMS
Objectives
The General BSc program is designed to give the student knowledge
and appreciation of the broad range of human endeavour in the
sciences, humanities, and social sciences, while providing for
study in greater depth and detail of the student's chosen major
subject in the natural sciences, mathematics, or computing. The
study of the major subject takes place in the context of other
natural sciences, mathematics and computing. It may be further
augmented by the choice of a second major, a minor, or an available
option in another subject.
A student in the General BSc program must choose a
major subject from among Biology, Chemistry, Computing,
Mathematics, Physical Geography, Physics and Statistics.
For a secondary program, the student may select as a
second major any of the above subjects or any major available in
the General BA program, or, alternatively, a minor or an available
option. To complete any major, minor, or option, all applicable
Common and Special Requirements must be fulfilled. Additional
credits may be necessary to fulfil all applicable requirements.
Regulations for General BSc Programs
In addition to the Regulations for General Programs and the
applicable Common and Special Requirements for the major, all
General BSc students must choose courses so as to satisfy the
following conditions:
l. The program must contain at least three of BI100*, CH100*,
GL100*, and PC100* (or PC110*).
2. The program must contain MA100* (or another credit in
Mathematics or Computing as described in the Special
Requirements for the student's major).
3. The program may not contain more than eight junior credits.
4. The program must contain at least two senior credits in
Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics, Physics or in
the courses identified as Physical Geography in the course
description section of the Calendar. Course credits
fulfilling this requirement must not be in the student's
(first) major subject, but may be counted toward a second
major or a minor.
5. The program must contain at least 11 credits from the
following list: all courses in Biology (except BI101*),
Chemistry (except CH101*, CH201*), Computing (except
CP102), Geology, Mathematics (except MA130) and Physics,
as well as courses designated as Physical Geography in the
course descriptions. For Physical Geography majors, the
list will also include GG395 and GG396. Other courses
which can not be counted towards fulfilling the
requirement, or towards the BSc program itself, are AS105*,
CH101*, SC101, SC102, SC103, or SC104.
