POST-DEGREE STUDIES Opera Diploma Program The Opera Diploma program is intended for singers who have completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in Music and who wish to continue their studies in voice and opera. The Diploma requires the completion, within three consecutive academic terms (spring/fall/winter or fall/winter/spring), of four and a half credits with an overall average of 7.00. For admission to the program, students must have completed all prerequisites, audition successfully, and be admitted to the University. Prerequisites: MU298*, MU490*, and two of FR102, GM100*, IT131. Required courses: MU294; MU398* or MU498*; MU491B*; MU491R; and one and a half credits which must include, if not taken as part of the undergraduate degree, a half credit in drama (TR221 or TR229) or MU284 (Acting for Singers). The student must be enrolled concurrently in MU398* or MU498*, MU491B*, and an approved elective course; withdrawal from one of these will entail withdrawal from the program. Electives may be chosen from MU497* (Intensive Studies in Voice), drama, acting, languages, and a senior half credit in music history. Depending on the student's prior experience in voice, opera, music history, and drama, other electives may be considered such as accompanying, coaching, and dance. Each student's program must be approved by the Dean and by the Co-ordinator of Opera. Students in this program may not repeat courses. Diploma in Chamber Music The Chamber Music Diploma program is intended for performers who have completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in Music and who wish to continue their studies in chamber music. The Diploma requires the completion, within three successive academic terms (spring/fall/winter or fall/winter/spring) of four and a half credits with an overall grade point average of 7.00. For admission to the program, students must successfully complete an audition and be admitted to the University. An applicant who does not apply as a member of a pre-formed chamber music group will only be admitted if he or she can be a member of an appropriate group of which every member is registered in the Faculty of Music. Students who enter without a senior course in 20th-century music literature, history, or theory must take such a course as an elective within the Diploma program. Required courses: MU491B*, MU491C, MU488*, MU482; MU376, Studies in the History of a Musical Genre: Chamber Music or another course in music history or theory focusing on chamber music; one elective credit, Music or non-Music. Each student's program must be approved by the Dean and by the Director of Chamber Music. Students in this program may not repeat courses. OTHER POST-DEGREE STUDIES Applicants for post-degree practical studies will be considered by the Admissions Committee after the studio requirements for undergraduates have been determined. Any student enrolled in post-degree, non-diploma practical studies in Music must be enrolled full-time. Any withdrawal from courses that produces less than full-time registration (four credits) will require withdrawal from all practical study courses.
