A survey of the rise of modern education and training systems in
Europe and North America since the Enlightenment, and their export to 
other parts of the world. Topics will include: evolving pedagogical 
theory and techniques, the growth of state-sponsored education 
(universities, colleges, institutes and adult education programs), the
professionalization of teaching, the role of private and corporate 
education, and international agencies involved in education.
