Continuing Education Director, Continuing Education: Douglas Witmer, BA, MA, Ext. 4103 Manager, Continuing Education: Sandra Hughes, Ext. 4104 Manager, Personal and Professional Development Programs: Monica Collins, Ext. 4106 Office Location: First Floor, 232 King St. Wilfrid Laurier University offers a wide selection of courses for part-time students during several instructional sessions. In addition, the Office of Continuing Education is responsible for developing and supporting a range of certificate programs, seminars, workshops and conferences. These learning opportunities are built on the strengths and interests of the university's faculty and are designed to meet the needs of local, national and international communities. In the course of a year there are five points of entry for part-time students, corresponding with the following instructional sessions: Fall Term (September to December), Winter Term (January to April), Spring Term (May to August), Intersession (May to mid-June) and Summer Session (July to mid-August). Students may register in Distance Education courses available on TVOntario during Fall, Winter and Spring Terms. Students may also receive on temporary loan, their own set of video tapes for the over 50 Distance Education courses that are available. Summer Session may provide opportunities for studies abroad in such places as England, Italy, and the Near East. Part-time students may also register for regular daytime or late afternoon courses at the Waterloo campus. The range of courses offered enables a student to complete on a part-time basis, all the requirements for the General Bachelor of Arts degree (BA), Diploma in Business and the Certificate in Arts (I and II). It is not essential, however, that a student work toward a degree. Courses may be taken for general interest, for self-enrichment, or with a view to improving one's job qualifications or career prospects. At the Waterloo campus, a broad range of Business courses makes it possible for part-time students to earn a university diploma (Diploma in Business Administration or Diploma in Accounting) and/or to satisfy the academic requirements of numerous professional designation programs. Courses taken in partial fulfilment of designation requirements may be applied to diploma programs, and up to six half-credit courses in Business, plus four half-credit courses in Economics may be credited toward the General BA degree. Students wishing to pursue a General Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) or an Honours degree in an arts or science subject will usually find it necessary to register full-time for one academic year or more. The Third Year of the Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA) must be taken on a full-time basis. The Office of Continuing Education issues information regarding course offerings twice each year. The Fall/Winter Courses Offered publication is distributed in June, and the Spring/Summer Courses Offered publication (detailing Spring Term, Intersession and Summer Session) is distributed in February. The staff in the Office of Continuing Education will be pleased to answer inquiries from prospective part-time students.
