Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science
Students at Wilfrid Laurier University may obtain a BA degree from the University and a certificate from Conestoga College in the Career Development Practitioner program by applying for an integrated university/community college program developed by the Consortium of Conestoga College, the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University. The program's aim is to provide students simultaneously with a theoretical background (through the liberal arts degree) and competency in the practical application of this theory in a career development context (through the college courses). This is accomplished by combining the requirements for an Honours or General Bachelor of Arts degree concurrently with those of the Career Development Practitioner Certificate (CDPC) program offered at Conestoga College.
Students who are interested in obtaining both the degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and the Career Development Practitioner certificate from Conestoga College would ordinarily apply for the combined BA/CDPC program at the time of admission to Year One of their undergraduate degree, but must apply prior to the end of their second term in Year Two. However, students should be aware that the Career Development Practitioner Certificate program at the College is a limited enrolment program, and are encouraged to apply early in their First Year. Application forms are available in the Office of the Registrar and through the Offices of the Dean of both faculties of Arts and Science. Because of the complexity involved in scheduling both their university degree and college certificate courses, students must consult with the Office of the Dean of early in Year One for academic counselling.
Students must meet all the normal requirements of their particular degree program, must complete all eleven of the Conestoga College courses specified for the CDPC program (in areas such as life-span development, group and career counselling, assessment and consulting), and must satisfy all progression and graduation requirements in both the degree program and the certificate program. For those registered in a General BA (three-year) degree program, a minimum of 12.5 university credits must be completed, while for those in an Honours BA (four-year) degree program, the minimum is 17.5 credits. In both cases, all Core (see below), major, Faculty and residence requirements for the degree must be satisfied (see Academic Regulations in the University Regulations chapter, which may result in students having to complete more than the minimum numbers of credits.
Core Courses: [Six credits]
BU121; EC120 or EC140; PS100*, PS238, PS305; SY100*, SY224;
Either PS248 and PS249, or SY280 and SY382, (or any other approved credit in Research Methods and Statistics);
