Honours Psychology

The Honours Psychology program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), including at least 10 but not more than 11.5 credits in Psychology. A maximum of six credits at the 100 level may be included in the program.

It is recommended that all students considering graduate work register for the thesis course (PS499*) in Fourth Year. Students who do not take PS499* must take PS498.

Students are advised that admission to the Honours Psychology program does not guarantee admission to PS499*.

The non-Psychology electives must include at least one full-credit equivalent from each of the following groups:

Group I: BI100*, BI101*, CH100*, CH101*; either CP102 or BU115; CP104, CP114, GL100*, MA101, MA102, MA105, MA121, MA122, MA130, MA141, PC100*, PC102*, PC110*, PC120, a senior credit in any of these disciplines (excluding Business) or a senior credit in Physical Geography.

Group II: AN101, AN102, EC120, EC140, GG100*, PO110, PO111, SY100*, or a senior credit in any of these disciplines except Physical Geography.

Group III: Archaeology; Classics; English; non-studio Film Studies; non-studio Fine Arts; History; Languages and Literatures; Music History or Literature; Philosophy; Religion and Culture, TR101, TR111.

First Year
PS100* and four additional elective credits.
Ordinarily students will include one credit from each of the above three groups.

Second Year
Five credits including:

  1. PS298, PS299
  2. At least one of PS205, PS208, PS209, PS211, PS215 or PS228 must be completed during either Second or Third Year.
  3. At least one of PS218, PS219, PS221, PS225 or PS229 must be completed during either Second or Third Year. Students are encouraged to satisfy this requirement in the same year in which they satisfy 2 above.
  4. At least one of PS206, PS216, PS223, PS226 or PS231 must be completed during either Second or Third Year. Each of these courses includes a field placement as a course requirement.
  5. The prerequisites for at least one seminar course taken in Third Year.

Third Year
Five credits including:

  1. PS399*
  2. At least two of PS308, PS311, PS318, PS323, PS324, PS325, PS326, PS327, PS328 must be completed by the end of Fourth Year.
  3. PS452. This course may be completed in either Third or Fourth Year.

Fourth Year
Five credits, including either PS498 or PS499*.
If PS498 is chosen, at least one course in Psychology at the 300 or 400 level must be completed in addition to the senior course requirements listed above under Third Year.
Students in their Fourth Year are not permitted to register in PS218, PS219, PS221, PS225, or PS229.
