Award Description

Garfield Weston Scholars Program

Annual awards of $5,000.00 each will be given to four Second Year Laurier students with financial need, one from each of Music, Business or Economics, Arts or Science. Each student must be enrolled in a full-time honours degree program and will continue as a Garfield Weston Scholar for his/her Third and Fourth Year, provided he/she maintains a GPA of 9.00 (B+). Therefore, the Garfield Weston Scholarship will be awarded once every four years, and will next be awarded in Fall 2000. The remaining $5,000.00 in funding per-year will be used for program costs, including an annual multi-disciplinary seminar on contemporary economic, scientific, ethical and cultural issues under the guidance of a faculty member, who would serve as the scholars' advisor.

The Garfield Weston Scholars are a unique group of carefully chosen students representing Laurier's diverse strengths. They are well-rounded individuals with excellent academic records and demonstrated leadership qualities gained in volunteer work, community involvement or athletics. If the son or daughter of a Weston employee is tied for the scholarship with another applicant, special consideration will be given to the Weston employee's child. Each March, the four Scholars will prepare individual one-page reports on their year's activities for the W. Garfield Weston Foundation Board.

Value: four awards of $5,000.00 + $5,000.00 (expense costs)
