Award Description

McLean Family Scholarship Fund

Established by the McLean Family in 1998 to promote inter-faculty studies between Science and Business and to recognize involvement in the Laurier community. This scholarship was created to express appreciation of Laurier's student-centred flexibility, to celebrate Ian McLean's graduation, and to honour Dr. David Peirson, Chair of the Biology Department. Dr. Peirson, member of the Biology department since 1974 and Chair of that Department since 1989, has inspired and encouraged many students with his patience, fairness, vision, integrity, endless enthusiasm and contagious excitement for the world around us. The successful applicant will have completed first-year as a full-time undergraduate at Laurier, achieved a minimum B- average (7.00 GPA) and have financial need. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in Biology (first major, BA or BSc) and Business Administration (second major or option). He/she will have significant non-academic involvement in the Laurier community. If there are no deserving applicants in these programs, the scholarship may be awarded to a student in another program according to the following:
majoring in Biology, completed at least two Business Administration credits and planning to enrol in at least one more Business credit in the upcoming academic year;
enrolled in Biology and another non-science major;
enrolled in Biology. The successful candidate regardless of program, must have significant non-academic involvement in the Laurier community.
