Computing Facilities

The University offers a UNIX environment on various platforms and a Banyan Vines microcomputer network. Students can activate computing accounts on a UNIX mainframe and/or the microcomputer network at any time during the academic year. Access to computing facilities is considered important to the educational process, thus, all registered students can have an account with no usage limitations and no usage fees. Systems can be accessed from eleven microcomputer labs at the Waterloo campus, one microcomputer lab at the Brantford campus and various specialized microcomputer labs within departments. All students may have access to these computing facilities on an individual basis or in conjunction with the classes that they take. Laurier runs an integrated, networked computing environment where a student's account will run in any lab and will allow printing to any printer. Laser printing and colour printing are provided in several different locations on campus and are charged on a per-page basis.
