Honours BA Religion and Culture

The Honours Religion and Culture program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), of which at most six credits may be at the 100 level and at least a half-credit must be from Curriculum Division B in the General program. A minimum of 10, but no more than 15, of the 20 credits must be in Religion and Culture courses, including RE300, RE400, courses from Group I (Religious Traditions of the World), Group II (Thematic and Comparative) and Group III (Approaches to the Study of Religion and Research Tools) below, together with at least one additional 400 level credit (which may also be used to satisfy the Group I, II or III requirement).

Group I: At least one half-credit must be taken from each of three of the following six categories:
African Religions: RE285
Ancient Near-Eastern and Mediterranean Religions: RE107, RE200, RE205, RE206, RE262, RE308, RE309, RE324, RE326, RE346, RE347, RE421, RE444
Christianity: RE201, RE215, RE216, RE301, RE335, RE356, RE432
Judaism and Islam: RE213, RE227, RE304, RE343
Asian Religions: RE246, RE250, RE251, RE298, RE321, RE424
Indigenous Religions: RE211, RE318

Group II: At least one credit must be taken from:
RE103, RE104, RE108, RE212*, RE220, RE224, RE228, RE230, RE233, RE235, RE236, RE248, RE296, RE312, RE313, RE319, RE322, RE328, RE330, RE331, RE336, RE337, RE344, RE372

Group III: At least one half-credit must be taken from:
HB101, HB102, HB201, HB202, RE100, RE101, RE143, RE144, RE209, RE241, RE242, RE275*, RE316, RE327, RE348, RE380, RE456*, RE476, RE477

Note: It is strongly recommended that at least one university-level credit in a foreign language be taken. Students, in consultation with faculty advisors, may construct specialized programs within Religion and Culture to meet a variety of needs such as preparation for graduate study, seminary or teaching.
