Honours BA Sociology and Social Anthropology

The Honours Sociology and Social Anthropology program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), including AN101, AN102, SY100* and at most four other credits at the 100 level. A minimum GPA of 6.0 in AN101, AN102 and a GP of at least 6.0 in SY100* are required for progression into the Second Year of the program; for progression into subsequent years, and for graduation, the cumulative GPA will be calculated on the Anthropology and Sociology courses combined.

Required Senior Courses:
AN210, AN300, AN337, AN371; one of AN201, AN203, AN205; at least one of AN206, AN207, AN208, AN213, AN221; at least 4.5 additional senior credits in Anthropology, of which at least one credit must be at the 300 level and at least two credits must be at the 400 level.
SY203*, SY280, SY281, SY338, SY387, SY388
and at least three additional senior credits in Sociology, of which at least one half-credit must be at the 300 level and at least two credits must be at the 400 level.

Notes:

  1. Students may choose to complete an Honours thesis in either Sociology or Social Anthropology, or on a topic that combines the perspectives of both disciplines.
  2. Students should consult with Departmental advisors regarding Anthropology and Sociology research methods requirements.
