Honours BA Contemporary Studies {NEW}

The Honours Contemporary Studies program is an interdisciplinary program which consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), of which not more than 7 may be at the 100 level. The program consists of 12 credits of required courses in Contemporary Studies and in other disciplines relevant to an interdisciplinary understanding of contemporary issues.
The required courses are as follows:

  1. Contemporary Studies Courses
    Six credits:     CT111, CT112, CT231, CT232, CT241, CT242, CT301, CT302, CT321, CT322; and either CT330* or one other credit of CT400.
  2. Culture
    One and a half credits selected from: EN267 (Canadian Fiction in English), EN226 (Women in Fiction), FS242 (Contemporary Film), FS245 (Documentary Film), LL200 (Cultural Perspectives I), LL201 (Cultural Perspectives II), RE220 (Religion and Popular Culture), RE212* (World Religions in Cultural Perspective).
  3. Skills Courses
    One and a half credits: CS201/PY201(Reasoning and Argumentation), EN204 (Strategies of Analysis in Effective Writing), CT221.
  4. Society and Values
    One and a half credits selected from: CS207 (Media and Society), MU275 (Music of the World), PO204 (Politics and Economics), PY223 (Contemporary Moral Issues), PY233 (Sex, Love and Friendship), RE313 (Grief, Death and Dying), SY201* (Sociology of the Family).
  5. World Issues
    One and a half credits selected from: DI100 (Introduction to Development and International Studies), GG294 (Geography of Tourism), GG231 (Risks and Disasters), GG272 (Population Geography), HI314 (Contemporary Europe), HI202 (History of Modern Europe), HI349 (History of International Relations, 1890-1991), PO231 (Introduction to World Politics I).

Note: Students completing the Honours program in Contemporary Studies are required to complete at least one half-credit on-line course (available through the Web).
