Honours BA Development and International Studies in Combination with another Honours BA Program

The combined Honours Development and International Studies program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), of which not more than six may be at the 100 level. The program must include a minimum of seven senior credits from the Core and Elective courses listed below:

A. Core Courses (three and a half credits):
DI100, DI210, DI337/AN337, DI400
AN101, EC140, EC207 or GG263

B. Core Tools (one and a half credits): Students must choose courses from at least two of the following three categories:

  1. Statistics and Research Design: One half-credit in statistics from: GG258, PO218, SY280 and/or one half-credit in research design from one of AN300, PO217, SY281.
  2. Field Work: DI340, DI300, DI310*, GG451 (as approved by the co-ordinator) or at least one credit taken as an exchange student in a developing country.
  3. Language: One senior half-credit in Spanish or, with permission of the co-ordinator, one senior half-credit of another language, which complements the student's study of a developing country.

C. Electives (at least three credits from the following areas):

  1. The Developing World (at least one credit): PO227, PO228, HI329*, GG367, AN338/SY338.
  2. Peoples and Countries (at least one credit): AN201, AN203, AN205, AN329, AN330, AN332/CS310, AN339, GG494, HI336, PO318, PO319, PO475, RE227, US201.
  3. Values, Ethics, Rights (at least one half-credit): EN211, EN212, PY203, RE213, RE250, RE251, RE285, RE296, RE321, SY332, SY333/AN333, SY405, GG396.

Notes:

  1. For progression into Second Year, a minimum GP of 6.0 is required in DI100. For admission to Third Year, Fourth Year and for graduation, a minimum GPA of 7.0 is required. For progression into Third Year, Fourth Year and for graduation, the courses used for GPA purposes will consist of all Core and Elective courses counted towards the combined Development and International Studies program.
  2. To ensure prerequisites for subsequent courses in the program, students are advised to consider SY100*, GG100* and or PO110/PO111 in their first year. The following senior courses in the program have prerequisites: AN300, AN329, AN338/SY338, DI340, DI300, DI310*, GG258, GG263, GG367, GG396, GG494, GG451, PO217, PO218, PO318, PO319, PO475, SY280, SY281, SY332, SY405.
