Honours BSc Biology and Chemistry

The Honours BSc Biology and Chemistry program consists of a minimum of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), including at least six senior credits in each of Biology and Chemistry. Not more than six credits may be taken at the 100 level.

First Year
BI100*, CH100*; Either PC100* or PC110*
Either both MA103 and MA104 or both MA105 and MA141
One non-science elective credit

Second Year
Two credits in Biology at the 200 or 300 level
CH200*, CH212, CH220*
One half-credit elective approved by the Biology or Chemistry Department (MA240, CP102 or CP104 recommended)

Third Year
Two senior Biology credits
CH330, CH331, and either CH312 or CH313
One half-credit elective, and one senior elective credit approved by the Biology or Chemistry Department

Fourth Year
Two senior credits in each of Biology and Chemistry, including either BI490* or CH490*
One senior elective credit approved by the Biology or Chemistry Department

Notes:

  1. With departmental approval, a student in the General program may transfer to the Honours program after fulfilling all the Honours requirements up to the time of transfer. However, a student who has transferred out of the Honours program because of insufficient average or a failed course may not re-enter the program.
  2. Honours students are expected to attend all Department seminars.
  3. At least one 400 level Biology credit other than BI490* must be successfully completed.
  4. Electives must include at least a half-credit, in Curriculum Division A (excluding Mathematics) and a half-credit in Curriculum Division B.
  5. For progression into Second, Third or Fourth Year, and for graduation, the cumulative GPA is calculated on the Biology and Chemistry courses combined.
