Undergraduate Admissions

College Applicants

The University recognizes that students will benefit from exposure to both the applied knowledge programs offered at a college and the more theoretical liberal studies approach offered by university programs. Competition for admission to limited enrolment programs is usually keen. A higher academic standing than the minimums stated may be required from some, or all, programs.

Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT)

Admission from Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) programs is normally based on a cumulative average, number of years of study and appropriateness of the courses. Advanced standing is normally awarded on the following criteria:

  1. appropriateness of the CAAT program;
  2. course concentration;
  3. student achievement;
  4. applicability to the degree or major requested at Laurier.

Completed a Three Year Program

Applicants who have achieved a cumulative average of B- or better or have a B- average or better in the last two semesters in a three-year CAAT program are considered for admission. Advanced standing may be awarded up to five full credit courses to meet unspecified divisional credits, elective requirements.

Completed a Two Year Program

Applicants who have achieved a cumulative average of B- or better or who have a B- average or better in the last two semesters of a two-year program are considered for admission to the First Year of an appropriate program. Advanced standing may be awarded up to three full-credit courses to meet unspecific divisional credits, elective requirements, and honours/major requirements where appropriate. Up to two additional full-credit courses may be granted (for a total of five full-credit courses).

Completed Two Years of a Three Year Program

Applicants who have completed two years of a three year program and achieved a cumulative average of B- or better or who have a B- average or better in the last two semesters are considered for admission to First Year of an appropriate program. Advanced standing may be awarded up to three full-credit courses to meet unspecific divisional credits, elective requirements, and honours/major requirements where appropriate. Up to two additional full-credit courses may be granted (for a total of five full-credit courses).

Completed One Year of a Program

Applicants who have completed the First Year of a CAAT program with a cumulative average of A- or better are considered for admission to First Year of an appropriate university program. CAAT students who do not meet these requirements will be considered on an individual basis by the Admissions Committee.

Degree Completion Requirements for Ontario College Graduates

Three Year College Program

A general BA or BSc may be awarded to a student who has already attained a three year diploma from a College of Applied Arts and Technology when that student successfully completes a minimum of 7.5 senior credits at Wilfrid Laurier University, including all the course requirements of the major. The waiving of credit for specific courses contributing to the requirement of the major may be given at the discretion of the department in which the student is majoring. Admission to the University is governed by the normal undergraduate admission requirements outlined in the calendar for Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT).

Two Year College Program

A general BA or BSc may be awarded to a student who has attained a diploma in a two-year program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology or who has completed two years of a three-year program, when that student successfully completes a minimum of 10 senior credits at Wilfrid Laurier University, including all the course requirements of the major. The waiving of credit for specific courses contributing to the requirements of the major may be given at the discretion of the department in which the student is majoring. Admission to the University is governed by the normal undergraduate admission requirements offered in the calendar for the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology.
