This course adopts a critical approach to globalization by examining its meanings, its causes, its current processes and practices, and its implications. Thus, it is a broadly based exploration of global cultures, ideas and values in our time. Students start by looking at the main theoretical approaches to globalization, the relevant empirical data, and the relative merits of various approaches. They will be presented with case studies of different historical and contemporary manifestations of world cultures and economies. Attention will be directed to the diverse intellectual and a cultural processes which societies adopt in identify formation, and the pressures the GS foundation course for this field. |
