Administration Option

The Administration Option is available only to students registered in honours degree programs. Normally students register for the option during first or second year. Transfers into the option after second year must be approved by a co-ordinating committee consisting of four members, two appointed by the deans of the Faculties of Arts and Science and two by the dean of the School of Business and Economics. The Administration Option consists of the following 6.5 credits:

BU111 Introduction to Business Organization
BU121 Functional Areas of the Organization
EC120 Introduction to Microeconomics
EC140 Introduction to Macroeconomics

Year 2
BU227 Introduction to Financial Accounting
BU247 Managerial Accounting

Year 3 and 4
EN227 Writing for the Media or EN228 Technical Writing;
BU208 Interpersonal Communication
BU352 Marketing I
BU383 Financial Management I
BU385 Operations Management I
BU388 Organizational Behaviour I
BU481 Business Policy I (must be taken in Year 4)

Notes:

  1. For progression to Year 3 in the option, students must have completed all Year 1 and 2 option courses with a cumulative GPA of at least 6.00. For graduation, students must obtain a cumulative GPA of at least 6.00 in all option course(s) normally taken in Year 3 and Year 4. Students who fail to meet these GPA requirements by May 1 of their second or fourth year may repeat courses in the following summer, but must meet requirements by August 31. A maximum of 1.5 credits may be repeated.
  2. At least 4.5 of the 6.5 credits in the option must be completed at Wilfrid Laurier University.
  3. Students in third and fourth year considering an MBA program following graduation should consult with the co-ordinator of the Administration Option regarding course selection.
  4. The prerequisites for BU383, BU385, EN227 and EN228 are waived for students in the Administration Option. Students whose discipline or major does not require a statistics course are advised to complete BU385 prior to attempting BU383.
