Honours BA Contemporary Studies

The Honours BA Contemporary Studies program is an interdisciplinary program which consists of 20.0 credits (or equivalent), of which not more than 7.0 may be at the 100 level. The program consists of 12.0 credits of required courses in Contemporary Studies and other disciplines.

Required Courses:

  1. Contemporary Studies Courses (6.0 credits): These 6.0 credits must include 1.0 credit chosen from CT111, CT121 and CT122; at least 2.0 credits other than CT221 at the 200 level; and at least 2.0 credits at the 300 or 400 level (including either CT330* or at least 1.0 credit of CT400).
  2. Culture (1.5 credits):
    EN267 (Canadian Fiction in English), EN226 (Women in Fiction), FS245 (Documentary Film), LL200 (Cultural Perspectives I), LL201 (Cultural Perspectives II), LL300/FS300 (Themes in European Cinema), RE220 (Religion and Popular Culture), RE212* (World Religions in Cultural Perspective).
  3. Skills Courses (1.5 credits):
    CS201/PY201 (Reasoning and Argumentation), EN204 (Strategies of Analysis in Effective Writing), CT221 (Applied Scientific Reasoning).
  4. Society and Values (1.5 credits):
    CS207 (Media and Society), MU275 (Music of the World), PO204 (Politics and Economics), PY223 (Contemporary Moral Issues), PY233 (Philosophy of Sex, Love and Friendship), RE313 (Grief, Death and Dying), SY201* (Sociology of the Family).
  5. World Issues (1.5 credits):
    GG294 (Geography of Tourism), GG231 (Risks and Disasters), GG272 (Population Geography), GS101 (Introduction to Global Studies), HI314 (Contemporary Europe), HI202 (History of Modern Europe), HI349 (History of International Relations, 1890-1991), PO231 (Introduction to World Politics I)

Notes:

  1. Students completing the honours program in Contemporary Studies are required to complete a minimum of a 0.5 on-line credit course (available through the Web).
  2. The core courses in the CT honours program are the courses required for the CT general major, with the additional requirement that students take two sections of CT400, or CT330* and 6.0 additional credits.
