Wilfrid Laurier University offers a wide selection of courses for part-time students during several instructional sessions.

In addition, the Office of Part-Time, Distance and Continuing Education and Instructional Development is responsible for developing and supporting a range of certificate programs, seminars, workshops and conferences. These learning opportunities are built on the strengths and interests of the university's faculty and are designed to meet the needs of local, national and international communities.

In the course of a year there are five points of entry for part-time students, corresponding with the following instructional sessions: fall term (September to December), winter term (January to April), spring term (May to August), intersession (May to mid-June) and summer session (July to mid-August). Students may register in distance education courses during any of these sessions. Students may receive their own set of videotapes on temporary loan, for the more than 70 available distance education courses. Summer session may provide opportunities for studies abroad. Part-time students may also register for regular daytime or late afternoon courses at the Waterloo campus. Courses are also offered on the World Wide Web.

The range of courses offered enables a student to complete all the requirements for the General Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, Diploma in Business Administration and the Certificate in Arts (I and II) on a part-time basis. It is not essential, however, that a student work toward a degree. Courses may be taken for general interest, for self-enrichment, or with a view to improving job qualifications or career prospects.

At the Laurier Waterloo campus, a broad range of business courses make it possible for part-time students to earn a university diploma (Diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or Financial Planning) and/or to satisfy the academic requirements of numerous professional designation programs. Degree-credit courses taken in partial fulfillment of designation requirements may be applied to diploma programs, and up to 3.0 credits in Business, plus 2.0 credits in Economics may be credited toward the general BA degree.

Students wishing to pursue a General Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or an honours degree in an arts or science subject will usually find it necessary to register full-time for one academic year or more. The third year of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree must be taken on a full-time basis.

The Office of Part-Time, Distance and Continuing Education and Instructional Development issues information regarding course offerings twice each year. The Fall/Winter Calendar is distributed in June, and the Spring/Summer Calendar (detailing spring term, intersession and summer session) is distributed in February.

Another service through the Office of Part-Time, Distance and Continuing Education and Instructional Development is Laurier's Stock Market Competitions. Competitions are available to secondary, college, university and MBA students. For further information visit the Web site at <http://invest.wlu.ca>.

The staff in the Office of Part-Time, Distance and Continuing Education and Instructional Development will be pleased to answer inquiries from prospective part-time students:
