Career Development Practitioner

Students may obtain a BA degree from the university and a certificate from Conestoga College in the Career Development Practitioner (CDPC) program developed by a consortium of universities (Wilfrid Laurier, Waterloo and Guelph) and Conestoga College. The program aims to provide students simultaneously with a theoretical background (through a liberal arts degree) and competency in the practical application of this theory in a career development context (through the college courses). The latter includes courses in areas such as life-span development, group and career counselling, and assessment and consulting.

Students who are interested in the combined BA/CDPC program ordinarily apply for admission after they have been admitted to Year 1 of their undergraduate degree. Students must apply before the end of their second term in Year 2.

Students should be aware that the CDPC program at Conestoga College is a limited enrolment program. You are therefore encouraged to apply for admission early in Year 1. Application forms are available in the Office of the Registrar and through the Office of the Dean. Because of the complexity involved in scheduling university and college certificate courses, students must consult with the Office of the Dean early in Year 1 for academic counselling.

For those registered in the CDPC program and a General BA degree program, a minimum of 12.5 university credits must be completed, while for those in an Honours BA program, the minimum is 17.5 credits. Students must satisfy all the requirements for their degree program and the CDPC program, and complete the following core courses.
