Core Courses (4.0 credits - this must include 1.0 credit from each of the 100, 200 and 300 levels, and a 0.5 credit from the 400 level):
GS101, GS102, GS211, GS212, GS221, GS222, GS231, GS232, AN319/GS319/RE319, GS321/RE321, GS329*/HI329*, GS337/AN337, GS349/HI349, GS367/GG367, GS372/RE372, GS380/RE380/SY380, GS400;
In exceptional cases students will be permitted to substitute a directed studies course with a GS faculty member in lieu of GS337.

Language Requirement (1.0 credit):
GS students are required to take 1.0 credit in a non-English language study. Culture courses taught in English may not be counted as a substitute, though they may be counted as core elective courses below. These language courses can be taken at WLU, at other recognized Universities in Canada or abroad on a Letter of Permission, with permission of the GS co-ordinator.

Global Studies Abroad (GSA)
1.0 credit must be obtained in an international setting with the approval of the GS co-ordinator. This credit may also be used toward the previous language requirement or one of the core electives below.

Core Electives Within GS (4.0 credits):
Global Studies annually provides a list of recommended courses offered during the current academic year in each field. Students may concentrate their GS courses in one of the following fields:
Comparative Development
Globalization and Cultures
Peace and Conflict

Field concentrations are not a requirement of this program.
In some cases, courses in a specific discipline have prerequisites, for which the student is responsible. Qualified students may also substitute appropriate Independent Studies research projects for a maximum of 2.0 credits of the core elective credits with the prior approval of the GS co-ordinator or designate.

Notes:

1. For progression into Year 2, a minimum GPA of 6.00 is required in GS101 and GS102. For admission to Year 3 and Year 4, and for graduation, a minimum GPA of 7.00 is required. For progression into Year 3 and Year 4, and for graduation, the courses used for GPA purposes will consist of all core and elective courses counted towards the combined Global Studies program.
2. The Global Studies Student Contract
   In order to design a coherent program of study with clearly-stated goals, GS honours students are annually required to have their entire academic program approved by the GS co-ordinator or designate.
