LL200 Cultural Perspectives I 0.5

This course examines the artistic, literary and intellectual culture of western and central Europe prior to 1880. Particular attention will be paid to developing the ability to analyse and compare representations of the cultural life of the French, German, Italian and Spanish people. The course is divided in three sections: Medieval and Early Modern Period; the 17th and 18th centuries; Romanticism. Each section has three units, which treat the topic of that particular section from a French, German, Italian and Spanish perspective. Instead of being a survey of European cultural history, this course focuses on specific events, topics or people that have enriched the heritage of the western world.

LL201 Cultural Perspectives II 0.5

Each section has three units, which treat the topic of that particular section from a French, German, Italian and Spanish perspective. Instead of being a survey of European cultural history, this course focuses on specific events, topics or people that have enriched the heritage of the western world.

LL223 Linguistics 0.5

LL300 Themes in European Cinema 0.5

This course will provide an in-depth survey of European cinema regarded as a diversified whole. The course will contrast European production systems and film culture with Hollywood; as well, it will offer a comparative study of main themes like urbanization, immigration, the Holocaust and historical memory, gender roles, regional nationalisms and continental unification movements. LL400 Language and Technology 0.5

An insight into the use of computers in language learning, as well as an introduction to effective teaching methodologies involving technology. A survey and evaluation of current language software used in teaching environments will lead to the design of a small multimedia program/Web site that constructively teaches an appropriate aspect of language.

Prerequisite: Registration status: senior student.
