The history, beliefs, and culture of Eastern Orthodox Christianity from its origins to the present day with an emphasis on factors that influenced the growth of distinctively Orthodox traditions in theology, practice, and organization. Other characteristic aspects of Eastern Orthodox piety and devotion such as monasticism, architecture, icons and other religious art will also be studied.††
