An introduction to probability and statistics is the objective of this course. Topics include descriptive statistics, probability and probability distributions, sampling, estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, chi-square tests and simple and multiple regression. The emphasis will be on business applications. The computer will be used extensively. |

An introduction to classical statistics with emphasis on business and economic applications. Topics include probability distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing, simple and multiple regression, analysis of variance, chi-square tests and non-parametric statistics. This course develops a quantitative approach to business decision making. The first part of the course deals with decision making under uncertainty, the latter part with decision making under certainty. Topics include probability, linear programming, simulation, queuing models, Bayesian decision analysis, decision trees, multi criteria decision making and games. (Cross-listed as EC275.) |

| BU383 Financial Management I 0.5 |

The role of the financial officer as a key member of management is the central thrust of this course. The course covers securities valuation, capital market theory, working capital management, financial statements analysis and projection techniques. The financial questions investigated concern the management and analysis of cash, accounts receivable, inventory and short intermediate term liabilities as well as analysis of profitability and risk. The method of instruction involves both lectures and cases. |

This course examines the role of the operations function in the organization by exploring long-term planning and strategic issues in managing, manufacturing and service operational systems. Topic areas include operations strategy, demand management, capacity planning, facility location and layout, product and service development, process design, and quality management. Basic analytical techniques related to these areas are introduced and the relationship between operations management and other functional areas is emphasized. |

This course provides an introduction to computer simulation as a business decision-making tool. The primary objective is to discuss basic computer simulation concepts and their application to production, marketing, and finance. Simulation of human decision-making and management games are also discussed. |

| BU463 Advanced Corporate Finance 0.5 |

This is a course in advanced corporate finance dealing with corporate valuation methods and applications. It covers the traditional valuation methods (i.e. discounted cash flow and relative valuation methods), as well as the contingent claims valuation approach (i.e. options theory based valuation). The applications of the traditional valuation methods to corporate restructuring and of options theory to corporate finance will be emphasized. Students are expected to present and discuss cases and submit a major case report. |

Macroeconomic theory is discussed in the context of an economy which is engaging in international trade. Besides dealing with the effects of trade on such things as domestic employment and inflation, the course places considerable emphasis on how trade is financed, exchange rate and balance of payments determination, the international financial system, and macroeconomic policy. |
