Computing Facilities

Assignments and projects will use the Sybase Central database installed in the Windows and SUN labs.

Assignments/Project Schedule

Assignment 1 due date: Friday, October 4, 2002
Assignment 2 due date: Friday, November 1, 2002
Assignment 3 due date: Friday, November 29, 2002
Master Project due date: Monday, November 25, 2002
All students will be required to prepare a Master Project. A detailed description will be given in class. Students may form teams (of no more than 3 students each) to work on the Master Project collectively.
Research Projects Presentations: Week 12 of courses.
All students will be required to study and understand a research article relevant to databases research. Half-hour presentations (20-min talk + questions/answers) will be scheduled for the last week of courses. Students will work on this project individually.
There will be no Final Examination for CP465.

Midterm

The Midterm examination will be on October 17, 2002.

Student Evaluation

The 3 assignment marks will account for 30% of the final mark (10% each).
The master project mark will account for 30% of the final mark.
The midterm examination mark will account for 25% of the final mark.
The research article presentation mark will account for 15% of the final mark.
The final mark will be computed by scaling appropriately the 4 marks (assignments-project-midetrm-presentation).

New Course Drop Dates 2002/2003:

September 6: final day to cancel Fall term and Fall/Winter session registration with no tuition charge (cancelation fee applies).
September 20: final day to drop 12-week and Fall/Winter course(s) or withdraw at 10% tuition charge
November 4: final day to drop course(s) or withdraw from 12-week course(s) without failure and for tuition adustment.
January 3: final day to cancel Winter term registration with no tuition charge (cancellation fee applies).
January 17: final day to drop 12-week course(s) or withdraw at 10% tuition charge
March 10: final day to drop course(s) or withdraw from two-term or 12-week Winter term course(s) without failure and or tuition adjustment.

Ethical Conduct, Academic and Research Misconduct

Plagiarism Detection Software

Wilfrid Laurier University uses software that can check for plagiarism. Students may be required to submit their written work in electronic form and have it checked for plagiarism.

Final Exam Date, Examination Deferrals

The Academic Date section of the Calendar (Printed and Web Site Versions) clearly states the examination date period for each semester. Students must note that they are required to reserve this time in their personal calendars for the examinations. The Fall Semester examination period is DECEMBER 5-19, 2002. Students who are considering registering to write MCAT, LSAT or GMAT or a similar examination, should select a time for those examinations that occurs outside the University examination period. For additional information that describes the special circumstances for examination deferment, consult the University calendar.
