Honours BA Environmental Studies

The Honours Environmental Studies program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent), of which no more than six may be at the 100 level. A maximum of 12 credits may be in Geography, including those specified as follows:

Core Courses (eight and a half credits):
GG100*, ES100*, GG251, GG254, GG258; either GG260 or GG270; GG280*, GG298 (normally taken in Second Year); Third Year Field Camp (one week, no credit); one of GG351, GG360, GG361, GG368, GG369; one of GG291 or GG392; two of GG336, GG379, GG381, GG382, GG389; and two of GG385, GG391, GG493, GG496.

Elective Courses (eleven and a half credits):
In addition to the courses taken above, the program consists of eleven and a half elective course credits as follows:
Two and a half credits from List 1 (GES electives) of which at least one credit must be at the 300-400 level.
Seven credits selected from disciplines other than Geography and ES of which at least two credits must be from List 2 (non-GES electives).
Two credits of Geography and ES or non-Geography and ES.

List 1 (GES electives): GG233, GG261, GG283, GG291, GG292, GG294, GG297, GG336, GG379, GG381, GG382, GG383, GG385, GG386, GG389, GG391, GG392, GG393, GG396, GG397, GG398, GG450*, GG451, GG493, GG494, GG496.

List 2 (non-GES electives): AN201, AN205, AN206, AN338, AN339, BI305*, BI307*, BI310*, BI331, BI464*, CH233, CH234, CH235, CH236, DI210, EC217, EC218, EC238, HI458*, HI474*, PO316, PY223, PY224, PY226, SY406.

Notes:

  1. For progression into Second Year, a minimum GP of 6.0 is required in each of GG100* and ES100*. For progression into Third Year, Fourth Year and for graduation, the area of specialization for GPA purposes will consist of all Core, List 1 and List 2 courses taken towards the Honours Environmental Studies program.
  2. At least one half-credit must be taken from Curriculum Division A (PY223 recommended).
  3. To count courses other than those in Lists 1 and 2 above towards the Honours Environmental Studies program, written permission must be obtained from the Department of GES prior to the commencement of such courses.
  4. Students are advised that many of the courses in the program, especially those in List 2, have prerequisites.
