VI.9. Development and International Studies

General BA Development and International Studies Program Revision:

  1. This program consists of seven and a half credits including two and a half credits in core courses, and five credits in electives.
  2. Core Courses: DI100, DI200 and one and a half credits from:
    AN101, AN337/SY337,
    DI310, DI340, EC207, GG367, HI329*, SY338, either both PO227 and PO228, or both PO231 and PO232.
  3. The five elective credits are subject to the following regulations:
    1. No more than two and one-half credits may be chosen from any one discipline.
    2. At least two regions (Africa, India, Asia, South America, Canada) must be selected as an area of study from among:
      AN201, AN203, AN329, AN330, AN332, AN339, GG352a (The Canadian Arctic), GG355, GG356, GG357, GG358, GG367, RE227 (The Middle East), RE296, and RE321.
    3. Additional electives may be chosen from (2) above and from
      AN322/CS310, AN340 (Social Anthropology of India), AN456 (Applied Anthropology), DI300, DI350, EN207, EC229, EC239, EC247, EC349 (International Finance), EN211, EN212, EN302, GG397 (World Water Environment and Development Issues), HI313, HI316, HI335 (The United States in Latin America Since 1898), HI344, HI345, PY203, PY213, PY230, PO318, PO319, PS234, RE211, RE250, RE251, RE318, SY331, SY332, SY331/AN333, one credit from Irregular Courses as approved by the Co-ordinating Committee.

Course Change:

DI300 Development and International Studies Fieldwork 0.5

Formal placement in a development context or work with an international non-governmental organization involved in solidarity work or with a government agency involved in international development work. Course credit requires placement supervision and an appropriate term evaluation exercise.

Prerequisite: DI100 or permission of the Co-ordinating Committee.
