Faculty of Music
Revisions are inserted in bold into the following program description (see page 104 of the 1996-1998 Undergraduate Calendar).
The combined Honours BA Music program consists of 20 full-credit courses (or equivalent). No more than six of these may be at the 100 level. A minimum of eight credits is required in Music of which six must be at the senior level.
The required Music courses (five and a half credits) include:
Theory: MU161, MU162, MU266, MU268
Musical Skills: MU186º, MU187º, MU286º, MU287º
Music History: MU171, MU270, MU271, and one elective course from the MU370 series
Twentieth Century: MU375 or MU461 or MU462
The elective music courses (2.5 credits) shall be taken in one or more of the following subjects: music history, theory, psychology of music, musical aesthetics, world music.
Registration in additional music credits in practical study, ensemble, and composition requires permission of the Dean of Music.
Admission to the program requires meeting the admission requirements of the Faculty of Arts and Science and successful completion of an audition and a theory placement test.
