President

The biggest benefit for alumni to connect with Laurier is the feeling of belonging to something meaningful. We spent years getting our degrees, and then went on to careers, families and all of the other parts of our lives that make up who we are. Laurier is always there, and it’s always part of us.

Being part of the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA) and making a positive contribution to my university has been very rewarding. The Association is involved in many projects and makes numerous commitments to help different areas of the university. WLUAA’s most recent donation of $750,000 will support three important areas: mental health initiatives, social innovation and social entrepreneurship, and student financial support.

This donation brings the Laurier Alumni Association’s total contribution to Laurier’s current fundraising campaign up to $1 million. That level of support from our alumni community is phenomenal. I feel very fortunate to have been involved in this decision-making process for this and other important initiatives.

It was almost 10 years after graduating before I thought about getting involved with Laurier. I talked to a few people I knew who were involved, and their positive experience gave me the push I needed. Joining the Alumni Association board has been very rewarding for me, and I look forward to leading the Association as president.

I encourage other alumni to connect with Laurier. Your involvement can be at different levels that work for you. Come back for Homecoming, be part of your reunion, join in the GradVantages programs. The university needs strong committed alumni. I chose to get involved in the way I did, but there are numerous connections that everyone can make. It is those connections that set Laurier apart.

Thank you,
