Honours BA Cultural Studies in Combination with another Honours BA program

The combined honours degree in Cultural Studies consists of 20 credits (or equivalent), no more than 6.0 of which are at the 100 level. Students must take a minimum of 7.0 credits in Cultural Studies, with a maximum of 1.0 credit at the 100 level.

Years 1-4
Students must fulfill their theory and period requirements (each 1.0 credit).

Year 3
Students choose one of three streams Image, Sound, or Text:

Years 3-4

1.0 credit from other electives. Students can choose among the courses that are listed under all three KS streams and those in the Theory and Period Requirements. Students may also choose among the following courses: AN337/GS337, AN459, CA201/PO201, CA202, CL216/KP216, CL218, CS207, CS305, CS312, CS322, CS325, EN210, EN333, FR236, FR237, FR438, GM314, GM350, GM370, GS221, GS222, GS380/RE380/SY380, HI455*, HI459*, HI475*, LL200, LL201, LL300, KS205.

Year 4
0.5 credit: Cultural Studies Honours Seminar, or an approved honours seminar from another program. (For examples of possible Year 4 KS seminars, refer to the outlines for MU472, MU472, KS420, and KS430).

Notes:

  1. The KS Honours Seminar(s) will typically change from year to year. Consult the KS booklet, bulletin board, Web site, and/or the KS co-ordinator.
  2. All courses and Honours Seminars offered exclusively by Cultural Studies have KS200* (or permission of the instructor) as a prerequisite. Students should note that courses on the list of KS-approved courses may have their own departmental prerequisites and other exclusions, for which the student is responsible. In particular, students interested in the sound stream should note the prerequisites for period and theory courses in music. Students are encouraged to consult with the co-ordinator when selecting courses.
  3. Independent Studies research projects for a maximum of 0.5 credits of core electives may be substituted for such courses, with the prior approval of the program's co-ordinator or designate.
