Honours BA Religion and Culture

The Honours Religion and Culture program consists of 20.0 credits (or equivalent), of which at most 6.0 credits may be at the 100 level and a minimum of a 0.5 credit must be from Curriculum Division B in the general degree program. A minimum of 10.0, but no more than 15.0, of the 20.0 credits must be in Religion and Culture courses, including RE300, RE400, courses from Group I, Group II and Group III below, together with at least 1.0 400 level credit in addition to RE400 (this 1.0 credit may also be used to satisfy the Group I or Group III requirement).

Group I: Religious Traditions Of the World
A minimum of 1.5 credits must be distributed among at least three of the following five categories:
African Religions, Indigenous Religions and New Religious Movements: RE211, RE265, RE285, RE318
Ancient Near-Eastern and Mediterranean Religions: NE101, NE102, NE201, NE202, RE200, RE205/AR205, RE206/AR206, CL262/RE262, RE421/AR421, RE444
Christianity: RE201, RE215, RE216, RE301, RE335, RE356, RE432
Judaism, Islam and Bahá'í: RE213, RE214, RE227, RE304
Asian Religions: RE246, RE250, RE251, RE255, RE298, RE321/GS321, RE424, RE455

Group II: Thematic and Comparative
A minimum of 1.0 credit must be taken from:
RE103, RE104, RE202, RE203, RE208, RE212*, RE220, RE224, RE228, RE230, RE233, RE235, RE236, RE248, RE296, RE312, RE313, RE319/AN319/GS319, RE322/AN322, RE328, RE330, RE331, RE332, RE336, RE337, RE340, RE344, RE366, RE372/GS372

Group III: Approaches to the Study of Religion and Research Tools
A minimum of a 0.5 credit must be taken from:
HB101, HB102, HB201, HB202, RE100, RE101, RE143, RE144, RE209/PY209, RE241, RE242, RE275, RE316, RE320, RE327, RE348, GS380/RE380/SY380, RE456*, RE476, RE477*

Note: It is strongly recommended that at least 1.0 university-level credit in a foreign language be taken. Students, in consultation with faculty advisors, may construct specialized programs within Religion and Culture to meet a variety of needs such as preparation for graduate study, seminary or teaching.
