General Physics BSc and Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma Program

Students at Wilfrid Laurier University may obtain a BSc degree in Physics from the university concurrently with a diploma from the School of Engineering Technology at Conestoga College. The aim of this integrated program is to provide students simultaneously with a theoretical background (through the Physics degree) and competency in the practical application of this theory in a technological context (through the college courses). This is accomplished by combining the requirements for the General Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics with those of the Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) diploma offered at Conestoga College, in order that a student could complete the joint program in four years rather than the six years, which might be necessary if the two were taken sequentially.

Students who are interested in obtaining both the BSc degree from Laurier and the EET diploma from Conestoga College would ordinarily apply for the combined BSc/EET program at the time of admission to Year 1 of their undergraduate degree. Application forms are available in the Office of the Registrar.

In addition to any courses specified by Conestoga College for the combined program (in areas such as electronics and telecommunications), students must complete the 12.0 General Physics BSc degree core credits listed, and must satisfy all progression and graduation requirements in both the degree and diploma programs, together with any other faculty or residence requirements, (refer to Academic Regulations in the Undergraduate University Regulations chapter).

Core General BSc Physics Courses: [12.0 credits]
MA103 (or MA110*), MA104, MA122, MA201, MA205, MA255;
PC131, PC132 (or both PC141 and PC142 with the approval of the department), PC200º, PC202º, PC212, PC237, PC242, PC321 and PC344; PC322 or PC360); 0.5 senior Physics credit;
2.0 credits from: BI100*, CH110 and CH111, GL100*, CP104 and CP114;
1.0 credit from each of Curriculum Divisions A and B.

Notes:

  1. Because of the complexity involved in scheduling both their university and college courses, and to avoid the possibility of having to complete more than the minimum number of credits, students are strongly advised to contact the chair of the Department of Physics and Computer Science early in the Year 1 regarding academic counselling.
  2. AS105*, BI101*, BI102*, CH120, CH121, CH204, CH205, MA130, SC101, SC102, SC103, SC104 cannot be counted toward the BSc degree.
