Honours BA Medieval Studies in Combination with another Honours BA Program

The Combined Honours in Medieval Studies program consists of 20.0 credits (or equivalent), no more than 6.0 of which are at the 100 level. Students must take a minimum of 7.0 credits in medieval studies, only 1.0 of which can be a 100-level course.

Students should be aware that some senior courses have prerequisites. Consult the respective calendar descriptions.

HI101: Medieval Europe, 500-1100
HI102: The High Middle Ages, 1100-1350
ML100: Discovering the Middle Ages
Other first year courses: MU171: Music History I;
any course in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian or German.

Year 2
ML200*: The Medieval World View
Other second year courses:
EN231: Arthurian Romance
RE215: Christianity and Culture: Early to Pre-Modern
Any course in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian or German

Year 3
Credits from:
EN238: Tolkien and Fantasy
EN352*: Literature of the Middle Ages
EN372: Old English I: Language and Literature
EN373: Old English II: Literature in Context
HI319*: The Medieval Foundation of England, 450-1485
LA381: A Survey of Medieval Latin Poetry and Prose
ML350: Medieval Drama
MU370: Music in the Middle Ages
Any course in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian or German.

Year 4
ML400: Senior Seminar in Medieval Studies
Credits from:
ML451: Representation of Women in Medieval Art
ML471: Medieval Culture in Pop or Art Music
Any course in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian or German.

Note: It is recommended that students wishing to pursue graduate studies take at least 1.0 credit in Latin and at least 1.0 credit in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Middle English or Anglo-Saxon.
