Honours BA Communication Studies in Combination with another Honours BA Program

The combined Honours Communication Studies program consists of 20.0 credits (or equivalent), of which not more than 6.0 may be at the 100 level. The program must include at least 8.0 credits from the core and elective courses listed below. At least 2.0 credits must be at the 300 or 400 level.

Core Courses (3.5 credits):
CS100, CS101, CS203, CS235;
One of CS200, CS202, CS212;
CS400 and one of CS401, CS402, CS403, CS405
Core Electives (2.0 credits from the following courses with at least one course (0.5-credit) from each category):
Language and Communication: CS200, CS201/PY201, CS202, CS212, CS312, CS322, CS341, CS401
Media Studies: EN302, CS308/SY308, CS310/AN332, CS323, CS333, CS350, CS402
Culture and Technology: CS213, CS303, CS304/CA304, CS305, CS315, CS325, CS351, CS403

Elective Courses (2.5 credits from at least three of the following categories:

Language and its Uses: AN210, EN204, EN205, EN223
Media and Mass Communication: FS240, FS242, FS245, FS341, FS343, FS347, PO349
Business and Organizations: BU208, BU288, BU352, BU472, GG366, GG369, GG394, PS272, PS284
Social and Theoretical Contexts: LL200, LL201, PS270, PY203, PY207, PY215/FI215, PY216, PY223, PY225, RE220
Studio: CS204, CS205, CS207, CS208, CS209, CS210

Notes:

  1. For progression into Year 2, a minimum GPA of 7.00 is required in CS100 and CS101. For progression into Year 3 and Year 4, and for graduation, a minimum GPA of 7.00 is required in the field of specialization. The field of specialization for GPA purposes for progression into Year 3 and Year 4, and for graduation will consist of all core and elective courses taken.
  2. Students who are required to complete a research methods course in the second honours program, such as geography, political science, psychology or sociology, may have the Research Methods (CS235) requirement waived, provided they substitute another CS core or elective course for CS235.
  3. At most 1.0 credit of CS340 may count toward the core requirement.
  4. CS429 (Directed Studies) may be included in the program as a core course, with the approval of the department and subject to the regulations governing Irregular courses.
  5. Students are advised that senior courses in the program have course prerequisites: e.g., AN210, BU288, BU352, BU472, CS205, CS308/SY308, CS310/AN332, CS350, CS351, CS400 series courses, GG366, GG369, GG394, PO349, PS270, PS272, PS284. Students are encouraged to select 100-level courses carefully.
  6. Students are advised that the department may approve the inclusion of 300 and 400 level courses from cognate disciplines in a particular student's program if the topics are relevant to their course of study (e.g., PY480, SY402, SY404).
