Special Requirements for the General BA Major

In addition to completing all the Common Requirements for the General BA major, the student must also complete the applicable requirements and notes.

Special Requirements for Interdepartmental BA Majors:
The majors in Canadian Studies, Communication Studies, Development and International Studies, Fine Arts, Theatre and Women's Studies are Interdepartmental Majors. All requirements for the General BA degree apply, except that more than five credits are required in the major.

The student's major must be authorized in writing by the Co-ordinator of the program. Permission to take individual courses is granted by the Department concerned. The student may take some of the credits for the major at the Honours level with permission of the Department.

Students should take note of the prerequisites (listed in the course description section of the calendar) of any senior courses included in their program.

Special Requirements for all General BA majors are given below:
Anthropology
Year 1AN101, AN102
Year 2 and 3Two of: AN201, AN203, AN205, AN206, AN207, AN208, AN210, AN213, AN221.
Plus: Three senior credits in Anthropology of which one credit must be at the 300 level.
Other RequirementsOne credit in both Curriculum Division A and C courses.
Special NotesStudents with a cumulative GPA in Anthropology credits of 7.00 or above are encouraged to take AN371.
Archaeology

Special Notes1. Every student will be required to participate in two different programs associated with sport, physical activity, or recreation. Each of these programs must consist of at least 48 participation hours. At least one of these activities must involve the student in some form of leadership, administrative or instructing capacity in community, school, university or privately sponsored programs associated with sport, physical activity or recreation. In addition to these types of programs, the second activity may also involve participation in inter-university or equivalent athletics. Other types of activities may also meet these requirements, but must be approved by the Department Chair. Appropriate verification of participation must be submitted by the student in order to complete this requirement.
2. Students intending to apply to a faculty of education at an Ontario university should obtain credit for six, or more, of KP101º through KP118º, KP207º and KP212º. However, a maximum of 8.00 KP credits can be counted toward the degree.
3. Kinesiology and Physical Education is not available as a second major.

Special Notes1. Students are advised that many of the courses in the program, particularly in Sociology, have prerequisites, and are encouraged to consult with the Co-ordinator when selecting courses.
2. At least five and a half of the seven credits must be taken at Wilfrid Laurier University to satisfy the residency requirements. (See Residency Requirements for a degree.)
3. WS301, WS390 and other Special Topics courses may be credited towards the Women's Studies major, as may courses from the Women's Studies program at the University of Waterloo. However, all such courses require prior written approval from, and categorization by, the Co-ordinating Committee. A more complete list of previously-approved courses will be available from the Co-ordinator.
4. Students combining the Women's Studies major with a Sociology program (other than a minor) may count a maximum of one credit in Sociology courses approved toward both programs.
